Première mondiale du film perdu , récemment découvert, produit par Near East Relief en 1924, avec une table ronde sur le rôle de l'aide humanitaire aux Arméniens –

Le programme de recherche sur le génocide arménien de l'Institut arménien Promise de l'UCLA, en partenariat avec la Fondation du film arménien, est heureux d'accueillir la première mondiale du film perdu, récemment découvert, « Jackie in the Near East », un court métrage de 1924 produit par l'Institut arménien Promise de l'UCLA. Near East Relief (NER) et mettant en vedette l'enfant star Jackie Coogan, qui a aidé à collecter des millions de dollars en Amérique pour les orphelins du génocide arménien.

Le voyage de Coogan à Athènes et sa rencontre avec les orphelins arméniens, grecs et assyriens de l’orphelinat de Syra sont présentés dans ce film découvert par la Fondation cinématographique arménienne.

Ce sera la première projection publique de l'intégralité du film depuis sa découverte.

Les panélistes discuteront de la manière dont l’Amérique a répondu au sort des Arméniens après le génocide – et de la manière dont cette réponse pourrait être pertinente aujourd’hui – dans le contexte de la crise en Arménie et en Artsakh

Jackie Coogan a plaidé la cause des Arméniens, des Grecs et d'autres peuples démunis à cause des horreurs de la Première Guerre mondiale, le Génoicide des Arméniens , en collaboration avec la fondation Proche East Relief. En 1924, il a participé à la tournée Croisade des enfants, entre les États-Unis et en Europe, qui a pris fin avec la collecte d'environ un million de dollars (ce qui équivaut à une valeur d'environ 13 millions $ en 2023), utilisé dans l'achat de vêtements, de nourriture et d'autres produits de première nécessité. Jackie Coogan a reçu les honneurs aux États-Unis, en Grèce et en Italie, où il a été reçu par le pape Pie XI.[3]

World premiere of the recently discovered lost film, produced by the Near East Relief in 1924, with a panel discussion on the role of humanitarian aid to Armenians—from the Armenian Genocide to the Artsakh crisis today.

This event is hosted by the Armenian Genocide Research Program of the Promise Armenian Institute at UCLA and the Armenian Film Foundation, and co-sponsored by theUCLA Film & Television Archive, the National Association for Armenian Studies and Research (NAASR), the Ararat-Eskijian Museum, and the Promise Institute for Human Rights at UCLA Law.

The Armenian Genocide Research Program of the Promise Armenian Institute at UCLA, in partnership with the Armenian Film Foundation, is pleased to host the world premiere of the recently discovered lost film, “Jackie in the Near East”—a 1924 short film produced by the Near East Relief (NER) and featuring child-star, Jackie Coogan, who helped raise millions of dollars in America for orphans of the Armenian Genocide. Coogan’s trip to Athens and his encounter with Armenian, Greek, and Assyrian orphans from Syra orphanage are featured in this film, which was discovered by the Armenian Film Foundation.

This will be the first public screening of the entire film since its discovery. Panelists will discuss how America responded to the plight of Armenians after the Genocide—and how that response might be relevant today—within the context of the crisis in Armenia and Artsakh.

The panel will be moderated by Carla Garapedian, Ph.D., of the Armenian Film Foundation.
