Le village de Khoshmat en Arménie occidentale (çakirkash en Turquie)
Voices – The History of the Khoshmat village of Palu
In Houshamadyan’s “Voices” section, readers can find previously unpublished memoirs, memory books, letters, etc. Today, we are releasing our second publication in this section. It is a previously unpublished and exceptionally fascinating memory book that concerns the village of Khoshmat (present-day Çakırkaş) in Palu.
The author is Mardoris H. Chakoyan, who began collecting and collating historical materials on his native village of Khoshmat in 1939, completing his collection in 1952. For various reasons, this seminal work was never published. Many years later, the manuscript reached Mardiros’s granddaughter, Janet Evans Houser. She had the text translated into English, and she contacted the editorial staff of Houshamadyan with the aim of publishing it.
The results of our long collaboration with Janet can now finally be revealed. The publication of this work is also an opportunity for us to announce that Houshamadyan’s “Voices” section has been completely updated and vastly improved. We have made every effort to ensure that our readers can more easily browse the materials available in this section.
