Diyarbekir – Schools
Our newest article explores Armenian educational life in Diyarbekir/Dikranagerd before the Genocide. The educational network of this city, which boasted a large Armenian population, experienced a period of great development in the two decades preceding the First World War.
Prior to the Genocide, the number of schools in the city grew significantly with every passing decade. The Armenian schools of Diyarbekir were educational hubs. The students attending them not only received an education, they also published newspapers and organized theater troupes. In other words, the schools of Diyarbekir produced a highly educated and enlightened generation of Armenians.
