LOS ANGELES (KABC) – Plusieurs centaines de manifestants ont bloqué un côté de l'autoroute 134 à Glendale mercredi soir pour attirer l'attention sur la crise en Artsakh.
À l'aide d'une grosse plate-forme, ils ont bloqué le côté est de l'autoroute au niveau des avenues Central et Brand. Les manifestants se sont ensuite rassemblés sur les voies d'autoroute et ont déployé des pancartes appelant au soutien du représentant Adam Schiff.
Des manifestants se sont également présentés au bureau local de Schiff ces derniers jours, appelant le membre du Congrès démocrate à faire davantage pour soutenir leur cause.
L'Artsakh est une république enclavée avec une importante population arménienne (130 000) qui a été sujette à des décennies de conflit entre l'Arménie et l'Azerbaïdjan. En décembre, l'Azerbaïdjan a commencé à bloquer une route connue sous le nom de corridor de Latchine, qui est le seul lien terrestre vers l'Arménie.
Schiff a exprimé son soutien à la fin du blocus, mais certains manifestants arméniens estiment qu'il n'a pas fait assez pour la cause.
Un panneau déployé sur les voies disait "Adam Schiff ne nous ignore pas" et un autre plaidait "Ouvrez la route de la vie".
Dans le passé, Schiff a publié des déclarations condamnant le blocus et appelant l'administration Biden à agir. Il est également l'auteur d'une résolution de la Chambre appelant à la reconnaissance de la souveraineté de l'Artsakh et condamnant l'agression de l'Azerbaïdjan.
Mercredi, il a publié une nouvelle déclaration qui disait:
"Je suis aux côtés du peuple arménien, de l'Artsakh et de la communauté arméno-américaine – non seulement mes électeurs mais ceux du monde entier. J'entends et vois votre douleur face à la situation inhumaine à laquelle vos frères et sœurs sont confrontés.
Qu'il s'agisse de condamner les violations du cessez-le-feu, de plaider pour la libération des prisonniers de guerre arméniens, d'appeler à des sanctions et à rendre des comptes à l'Azerbaïdjan, j'ai toujours été, et je continuerai d'être, ferme dans mon engagement à assurer la protection des droits fondamentaux de la peuple d'Artsakh. »
Je suis en communication avec l'administration Biden, le département d'État et mes collègues du Congrès et je plaide pour l'utilisation de tous les outils à notre disposition, notamment en faisant pression pour l'aide humanitaire américaine à l'Artsakh, en coupant l'aide militaire et autre à l'Azerbaïdjan et en imposant des sanctions à les responsables de cette crise.
Je serai avec vous à chaque étape du chemin et je serai toujours aux côtés du peuple arménien et de l'Artsakh."

LOS ANGELES (KABC) — Several hundred protesters blocked one side of the 134 Freeway in Glendale Wednesday night to call attention to the crisis in Artsakh.
Using a big rig, they blocked off the eastbound side of the freeway at Central and Brand avenues. Protesters then gathered on freeway lanes and unfurled signs calling for support from Rep. Adam Schiff.
Protesters have also been showing up at Schiff's local office in recent days, calling on the Democratic congressman to do more to support their cause.
Artsakh is a landlocked republic with a large Armenian population that has been subject to decades of conflict between Armenia and Azerbaijan. In December, Azerbaijan started blocking a route known as the Lachin corridor which is the only overland connector to Armenia.
Schiff has expressed support for ending the blockade, but some Armenian protesters feel he has not done enough for the cause.
One sign unfurled on lanes read "Adam Schiff don't ignore us" and another pleaded "Open the road of life."
In the past, Schiff has issued statements condemning the blockade and calling for the Biden Administration to take action. He also has authored a House resolution calling for recognition of Artsakh's sovereignty and condemning Azerbaijan's aggression.
On Wednesday, he issued a new statement which read:
"I stand with the people of Armenia, Artsakh, and the Armenian-American community – not only my constituents but those around the world. I hear and see your pain over the inhumane situation your brothers and sisters are facing.
From condemning ceasefire violations, to advocating for the release of Armenian prisoners of war, to calling for sanctions and accountability for Azerbaijan, I've always been, and will continue to be, steadfast in my commitment to ensuring the protection of fundamental rights for the people of Artsakh."
I am in communication with the Biden Administration, the State Department, and my Congressional colleagues and am advocating for using all tools at our disposal, including pushing for U.S. humanitarian aid to Artsakh, cutting off military and other assistance to Azerbaijan, and imposing sanctions on those responsible for this crisis.
I will be with you every step of the way and will always stand with the people of Armenia and Artsakh."
